Monster Jam 2014 is coming this weekend for the final show at the Citrus Bowl

I had an opportunity to check out Monster Jam at Raymond Jaymes Stadium in Tampa on Saturday evening.  Since I have two little Monster Truck lovers at home I was excited to be able to share the experience with them.  The event marked the 30th year that Monster Jam appeared in Tampa!

We started off by checking out "The World's Ultimate Pit Party" which precedes the big show and takes place outside the stadium.   It costs $10 to get in and provides fans with an opportunity to get autographs, take pictures with their favorite drivers and trucks, and even take a ride in a modified version of Gravedigger.

Our favorite part of the Pit Party was the stuntman who set flames to himself and jumped off an aerial platform onto a cushioned landing below.  It looked like it took him a little longer than he wanted to put the flames out once he landed.  But I wasn't quite sure.

It wasn't easy hunting down a good beer at Raymond Jaymes Stadium.  But after a little looking around I was able to find 16 ounce cans of Tampa Bay Brewing's Old Elephant Foot IPA.  I found it interesting that 16 ounce bottle cans of Coors Light were $8 and the cans of Old Elephant Foot were $9.

The show itself is comparable to an evening of WWE wrestling on really big wheels.  There are 2 separate competitions consisting of "racing" and "freestyle".  The racing portion was cool but we liked the freestyle competition best.   There were of massive jumps, flips, truck spinning donuts, and the destruction of a couple of old and beat up motorhomes. There was also an unexpected surprise for the grand finale.  I can't spill the beans but I can honestly say that it was a truly awesome way to end the show!

 *  In the interest of full disclosure, I received free passes to the 30th Monster Jam show in Tampa at Raymond Jaymes Stadium this past weekend in exchange for writing a review of the event on Orlando Beer Guide.  I received no additional compensation for this review and the thoughts expressed here are entirely my own.
