21st Annual Sunshine Challenge

We've been waiting for this one!  Redlight will be having their Oktoberfest celebration this Sunday October 23rd from 1:00pm-10:00 pm.  They have brought in a couple of very special beers for the occassion including Schneider Edel Weisse (an original Oktoberfest beer in Munich prior to 1945) out of wooden barrels and also a special Oktoberfest beer from Austria based on a recipe from 1810, also in a wooden barrel.

Big Bruno's Bites will be there at 1:00 till he runs out of food!  He'll be cooking up some German
classics!

We were fortunate enough to spend some time with Kurt Widmer of  Widmer Brothers Brewing yesterday in Orlando.  Kurt was in town for Widmer's  "Explore your Craft" event that took place Saturday night at Ember downtown.  We  discussed "The Golden Age of Beer", pairing craft beer with food, Florida's  exploding craft beer market, and Widmer's Collaborator Project among  some other things.  Full interview

The new Total Wine had its grand opening today near the Millenia Mall!  Saw some pretty good coupons today in the Orlando Sentinel.  They boast having over 2,500 beers!    Great place to do some beer browsing.

The Great American Beer Festival took place this past weekend in Colorado.  The G.A.B.F is by far the biggest and most important beer competition and festival in the United States. 

The Great American Beer Festival awards gold, silver and bronze medals for excellence in 75 beer-style categories but does not necessarily award medals to the top three finishers in a particular category. When judges decide a category contains three excellent examples of the style, they award gold, silver and bronze medals for the first, second and third place beers, respectively.

Florida represented well this year at the festival bringing back 5 medals!  If you are interested in seeing the official results click here.
